This is a classical silhouette water color, made popular in the 18th and early 19th centuries. Here we have the image of a group of people at a social gathering, perhaps a party, in shapes of black, set under a red canopy under a candelabra. This work is hand made, painted on woven paper, and shows signs of its aging. There is a small hole in the upper right corner, where there is some creasing, apparently from a pin mark. We have chosen to sell this as it is an unusal rarity, in fact something of an oddity. There are signs of aging on this work, which is to be expected from an artist's water color, which has never been framed or matted.
