Beautiful hand-colored lithograph, by artist Rispoli, From "Atlante Zoologico Popolare, opera Compilata Sui Più Recenti Lavori di Zoologia Italiani e Stranieri". Published Naples 1863 -79 by Raimondo Petraroja, with editor Giovanni Boschi. Drawn by :- A. di Lorenzo, Rispoli, Gaetano Dura (1805-1878), G. Amato, G. Riccio, Dolfino, Antinori, et al. Raimondo Petraroja.
This print features the original embossed stamp of authenticity from the publisher at the bottom center. Condition is EXCELLENT, with slight toning at edges, and slight smudge far lower left.
EXTREMELY RARE: not recorded in any of the standard bibliographies, not in BMNH. One copy recorded in Worldcat (Univeristy of California) and two copies in Italian libraries (Florence and Naples). Recently the complete edition of this printing was on offer by Christies Auction House for GBP 12,000!
Giovanni Rispoli (Naples, 1838 -) was an Italian engraver and a resident of Naples, where he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts. He won medals at the Exposition of the Mostra Marittima di Naples, and the medal completed for the Società Pellattieri of Naples.Giovanni Rispoli helped decorate (1901) the facade of the Sanctuary of the Holy Virgin of the Rosary in Pompei.
