This wonderful, almost pristine engraving is from Joseph Jakob Plenck's scarce "Icones Plantarum Medicinalium Secundum Systema Linnaei Digestarum," published in Vienna in 1778. This work was devoted to the medicinal properties of native European plants. Many had never been illustrated before. The engravings have a freshness and simplicity that charms collectors today.
