This is a hand colored wood engraving, Golden Plover birds, from the first edition of Beverly R. Morris’ BRITISH GAME BIRDS AND WILDFOWL, with illustrations by Benjamin Fawcett. Beverly Morris was a younger brother of famous British ornithologist, Francis Morris. BRITISH GAME BIRDS….was “a collection of accounts of British game birds, with a statement of the distribution and habits of the species and descriptions of the birds, their eggs and nests and notes on their value as articles of food.”
This engraving, Golden Plover birds, is in good condition with some browning at the paper edges and normal paper yellowing. Evidence of the original bookbinding is at the bottom margin.
