A beautifully hand-colored page from Volue III of Henry Leonard Meyer's "Coloured Illustrations Of British Birds And Their Eggs". Printed London, by Simpkin, Marshall, & Co., London, 1846. These equisitely detailed, hand-colored lithographs are from the first octavo edition, published from 1842 to 1853. Note the quality of the painting of each bird in these prints that we offer here.

Meyer was a recognized Dutch artist and naturalist. His ornithological drawings were made from nature as well as his own collection of birds. Meyer's wife aided in the engravings and is thought to have possibly assisted in the actual original drawings. This work is well-known for its beatuy: "With the possible exception of Lord Lilford's Birds, this is the Ffnest and most complete atlas of portraits of British Avifauna (With Their Eggs) ever published", Wood P.462.
These bird prints are over 150 years old and are not modern copies. EXCELLENT condition!
