Filius Niobes, from the Palatio Magni Ducis, an original engraving by Giovanni Battista de'Cavalieri (1525-1597), printed on laid paper, at the lower margin titled. After an antique statue at the Palatio Magni Ducis, Rome. Issued 1590 - Quarto engraving, from the book "Antiquarum Statuarum Urbis Romae". Giovanni Battista de'Cavalieri, an Italian engraver, was born at Lagherino and died at Rome. His style of engraving resembles that of Aeneas Vico. Many of his plates are copies after the great Italian masters; they are etched, and finished with the graver. He was very laborious, and his plates number nearly 380.
