We are pleased to make available a lovely print of the Lilly of the Valley flower, in a 1543 print by Otto Brunfels. Hand-coloured woodcut print. From "Contrafayt Kreüterbuch (mit naturgetreuen Abb. v. Hans Weiditz)", FOLIO. ORIGINAL LEAF FROM THE SCARCE GERMAN FOLIO EDITION
Otto Brunfels (also Brunsfels or Braunfels) (1488 in Mainz; † 23. November 1534 in Bern, Schweiz)was a German theologian, humanist, physician and botanist. His official botanical author's reference is "Brunsfels".
Botany owes its essence to its new foundations in the West, since, as usual, it was based not only on the botanical writings of antiquity, but also on the plants themselves, and on their own account. In his herbal books, Herbarum vivae icones (1530 and 1536, three parts) and Contrafayt Kräuterbuch (1532-1537, two parts), he cut the native plants he had found himself in wood, and put the German names under the pictures.
Condition: Excellent condition, with toning in margins, some slight foxing. Please see photos.
